XL, founded in 1992, performs powerful musical fairy-tales with electric intensity that has elicited enthusiastic response at jazz festivals and rock clubs in scandinavia, as well as among critics.

The group has teamed up both live and in studio with Heikki Savolainen and Jukka Hakoköngäs, who engineered and produced the debut CD "XLENT" (Ondine Octopus, 1995) and the new album "JUKOLA" (Pohjola Records, 1998), which features Michael Brecker on the saxophone.

Compositions by Arttu Takalo and Jarmo Saari are based on rich harmonies, multidimensional sequences and rock oriented sounds. Well aware of its ethnic roots, XL performs sensitive, yet energetic music far beyond traditional definitions. Tuure Koski and Tomi Salesvuo provide solid grooves full of interesting timbres and dynamics.

Nordic angst, gothic characteristics and an attitude are just part of what makes XL so huge.
