The Case is a new Finnish group which was founded in 1996.
The main idea was to put together musicians who have different styles, or at least come from different areas of Finnish jazz and rhythm music, but still speak the same language of musical expression.
The group was based partly on saxophone player Esa Pietilä's former quartet, which expanded to a sextet, now having also a guitar player and percussionist.
The former quartet has performed almost at all of the major jazz-festivals in Finland (APRIL JAZZ, KAAMOS JAZZ, IMATRAN BB- FESTIVAL, and LAHTI JAZZTORI), and also at many clubs in HELSINKI.

All the musicians have very personal styles, and they have performed with such international names as David Liebman, Vince Mendoza, Tim Hagans, Billy Hart, Mike Nock, Carla Bley just to name a few.

The music of THE CASE is very expressive and distinctively original, including sounds from rock to "etno" and having also "colors" from scandinavia. It is composed by Esa Pietilä and also by some other members of the group, like quitarist Jarmo Saari.

THE CASE is a mixture of different musical personalities and musicians, creating interesting music with a lot of different elements in it.
