Esa Tapani (1968) Begun horn playing at the Lappeenranta music institute at age of eleven. 1985 he moved to Helsinki and studied in Conservatory and from year -87 on at the Sibelius-Academy under Timo Ronkainen. Tapani studied 88-89 in Detmold music academy with professor Michael Höltzel. 1993 he made his horn diploma from the Sibelius-Academy. He has also studied privately with Hermann Baumann and Dale Clevenger.

After playing third horn with Helsinki Philharmonic 90 to 92 Tapani joined the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and worked as a solo horn in Stockholm until 95, and returned to Helsinki to play first horn at the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Esa Tapani has been member of the contemporary music spesialized Avanti! Chamber Orchestra since 1986.

Esa Tapani is also active chamber musician and soloist. He has performed as a soloist with over thirty orchestras. His solo appeariences include concerts with Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Prag Radio Symphony Orch., Finnish Radio Symphony, Avanti! etc., with works like Strauss concertos, Weber Concertino, Schumann Konzertstück, Mozart concertos, Haydn concertos etc.

Esa Tapani won the second price in Concertino Praga competition 1986. 1989 he won the first price in Scandinavian competition, and was nominated the Brass Player of the Year by Lieksa Brass Week in 1990. Esa Tapani has been the president of the Horn Club of Finland between the years 1990-1992 and 1995-1998.
