The distinguished and large scaled composer (from orchestral works to ballet and big band music, from theatre and film music to jazz) Jukka Linkola, 42, brings again new dimensions into his composer profile with his new unit EQ.

As a jazz composer and band leader Linkola is well known of his octet and tentet, both of them having had their strong impact on the Finnish scene for many years. Those bands have, however, soundwise been rather acoustic with their big horn sections. But that's, maybe a bit surprisingly, not the case with EQ.

EQ is something hard to categorize. Something about jazz, afro, contemporary music, tango and ambient techno but still at the same time something very much about composer and pianist Linkola, who always makes interesting and imposing music. EQ is also of today, musical pictures and illusions which can be created by both the musicians and the listeners.

The EQ line-up consists of some heavy weight top pros of Finland. To put it briefly:

Antti Murto keyboards, programming
One of the leading studio gurus, a sound wizard behind various studio and live megaproductions.

Markku Kanerva guitar
Plays a.o. in Espoo Big Band and often as the 4th member in Trio Töykeät.

Pentti Lahti saxophones, flutes
Experience and stints as much as it is possibie for one man to have (from Edward Vesala's Lumi to 20 years in UMO Jazz Orchestra, reed quartet Saxperiment, etc). Lahti has always, for 20 years or so, been a major inter- pretor of Linkola's music, also a great great soloist whet- her the music is by Duke Ellington or by Eero Hämeen- niemi (a famous Finnish contemporary music composer).

Anssi Nykänen drums
The Drummer, whose name is usually connected with rock. The guy who practically used to live in recording and TV studios.

Mongo Aaltonen percussion The One And Only of his kind. Whenever somebody needs a percussionist, his or hers first choice will inevitably be Mongo...

EQ's debut CD Libau was released at Ylläs Jazz Blues Festival on Feb 1 st 1997!
