Jussi Vuorinen

Jussi Vuorinen (b. 1976) plays the bass trombone in the Finnish National Opera Orchestra. He began his career as co-leader of his section in the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in 1995, transferring to the National Opera in 1996. Four years later he passed his diploma exam with top marks at the Sibelius Academy. He has also attended numerous masterclasses and taken private lessons in the USA and Sweden, with such teachers as Jay Friedman, Michael Mulcahy, Charles Vernon and Randy Hawes. Jussi Vuorinen is a member of the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra and the Savonlinna Opera Festival Orchestra and has appeared with a number of chamber music ensembles at the International Brass Seminar in Sweden. He has held solo engagements at the Lieksa Brass Week, in Finnish National Opera matinees and with the Vivo Symphony Orchestra in various parts of Finland. In 2002 he was the winner of the international Donald Yaxley competition for bass trombone, resulting in an invitation to appear at the International Trombone Festival in the USA. He has also taught on the Orivesi orchestral music courses and recorded with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Finnish Brass Symphony. The Lieksa Brass Week has chosen him as its Brass Player of the Year 2003.
