Teppo Viljanen

Bass trombone

Born in 1970, Kotka, Finland. He started his trombone studies at the age of 9 in Kotka Music Institute where his teacher was Miika Jokipii. His first instrument was euphonium. He started his tenor trombone studies in 1988 and he changed to the bass trombone in 1993. He studied in Sibelius-Academy with his future colleagues Simo Kanerva and Teppo Alestalo.

He was appointed as principal bass trombonist in Finnish National Opera Orchestra since 1994 and he got the same position in Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra two years later. He is active chamber musician and he is a member of Avanti Chamber Orchestra, Vantaa Pops Orchestra and Finnish Brass Symphony.

He was the Brass player of the year 2000 by Lieksa Brass Week.
