Trombonist, conductor, composer, arranger and educator, Alain Trudel is a complete, multi-faceted musician. Today, he maintains an international career in all of these activities but it was a trombonist that his dynamic career began. He performed professionally from the age of 15 and his career as a soloist was launched at the age of 18 with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Charles Dutoit.

Alain Trudel was the first trombonist to win the International Stepping Stone competition, the young soloist competition of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Mildred Dixon-Holme prize as well as the prestigious Virginia Parker prize, honoring Canada’s most promising young talent.

He has been invited to perform as soloist with many different orchestras including the Ochestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, The National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, the Hong-Kong Philharmonic, The Austrian Radio Orchestra, The Orchestre Nationale de Lorraine (Metz, France), The Tivoli Festival Orchestra, the New Hampshire Symphony, the Nevada Symphony, The UNAM Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), the National Radio-Television Orchestra of Poland and the Orchestre Metropolitain de Montreal.

Alain Trudel has given recitals at the Ijsbreker in Amsterdam, Carnegie-Weill Recital Nall (NY) the Music Gallery (Toronto), The Dresdner Neueu Musik Tage (Germany), Barge Music (NY), Tasmania New Music Festival (Australia), Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris (France), Carlos Chavez Hall (Mexico), Festival Musica Strasbourg (France), the Ars Musica Festival (Belgium), Klangbogen Festival (Vienna), Akiyoshidai Festival and at Hamamatsu (Japan). He is regularly invited as soloist to the International Trombone Festival and as soloist and conductor by the Brass Band of Battlecreek (USA). Alain Trudel’s concerts have been broadcast by radio, television and internet networks on five continents. There is a documentary on his work entitled "Alain Trudel’s Mission" (which was nominated for a Genie Award) and his performing and musical consulting are in evidence in the film "Trombone: the Voice of God."

Many works have been composed for Trudel including concerti by Pascal Dusapin, Jacques Hétu, Antony Rozankovic, Malcolm Forsythe, Vincent Collard, Alesina Louie and Calos Sanchez-Gitierrez. He has made recordings on several labels including NAXOS, NAÏVE, DORIAN and a series of recordings on the ATMA label.

Since 1997, he is the professor of trombone at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal where he also teaches sackbut, the ancestor of the trombone. Alain is also a founder and member of the trio Bellows & Brass (with Guy Few and Jospeh Petric) and the septet Kiosque which performs repertoire as interesting as it is eclectic.

Alain is an artist with Yamaha International, which provides support for his numerous musical activities around the globe. With Yamaha engineers, he has designed a mouthpiece which bears his name and which is distributed internationally.
