Kari Sundström

Born in 1967 in Finland. Studied under the direction of Heikki Vihanto in The Tampere Conservatory Of Music from 1978-85. Pursued his undergraduate studies in The Juilliard School of Music in New York with Dr. Per Brevig. After graduating in 1989 with the Bachelor's degree, he started his professional career in Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland as a bass trombonist 1990-95. In 1995 he moved to Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra as a second trombonist. Soon after he decided to start his graduate studies in The San Francisco Conservatory under the direction of Mark Lawrence. In 1996 he moved to Minnesota where he performs presently as a second trombonist with The Minnesota Orchestra. As a composer he received his first " spark" sitting in the music theory class in Juilliard, taught by Eric Ewazen, a composer of many great works for the brass solos and ensembles. |
