David Bobroff

David Bobroff was born in Chicago, Illinois (USA) in 1958. His family eventually settled in Talladega, Alabama where he first took up the trombone at age 14. Following graduation from high school he entered Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. There he studied with Dr. James Roberts, receiving both the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees. In the fall of 1980 David received a full graduate scholarship at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). He received his Master of Music in Trombone in 1982 and was then the first trombonist (and the second brass instrumentalist) to be accepted into the Artist Diploma program at CCM. During his years in Cincinnati David performed with the Cincinnati Symphony, the Cincinnati Opera, and the Cincinnati Symphony Pops orchestras as well as other freelance activities.
In 1988 he joined the Glenn Miller Orchestra as bass trombonist and toured with them for five and a half years, visiting many locations in North America as well as South America and annual trips to Japan. In 1993 he took a position as bass trombonist of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife (Tenerife Symphony Orchestra). Since January of 1995 he has been the bass trombonist of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. David last performed in Finland in 2000 when he joined the Finnish contemporary music ensemble Avanti! for their "Suvisoitto" summer music festival in Porvoo.
