Michel Becquet

After studies at the Limoges Conservatory, Michel Becquet was admitted to the Paris Conservatory at the age of 15, where he quickly earned his diplomas. He won the competitions in Geneva (1979), Munich, Prague and Toulon. He was only 18 when Wolfgang Sawallisch appointed him principal trombonist of the l’Orcestre Suisse Romande. A few years later, he joined the Paris Opera Orchestra, before leaving in 1989 to devote himself to teaching at the Concervatory of Cologne. Since 1990, he has been head of the brass department and a trombone professor at Lyon Conservatory. He is also the principal conductor of Cuivres Français, which is a brass ensemble consisting of 18 leading French brass musicians.
