Brandt Attema

Bass trombonist Brandt Attema has been committed to the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Holland (chief conductor: Edo de Waart) since 1999. Next to this job he’s part of the Nederlands Wind Ensemble and the New Trombone Collective. He performed with most Dutch orchestras like the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Residentie Orchestra. He also was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester during a tour with Pierre Boulez (summer 2000). He also performs with ensembles like the Schonberg ensemble, the Stravinsky ensemble and many others.

In September 1999 Brandt Attema won the international concourse for bass trombone in France. Since then he’s performing as a soloist in chamber music as well as with orchestra. He was, for example, a soloist on the International Trombone Festival 2000 and he will play a solo piece by Peter Jan Wagemans with the Nieuw Ensemble in January 2004.

Next to his study bass- and contrabass trombone in Rotterdam with Ben van Dijk – bass trombonist with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra – Brandt Attema also followed lessons and master classes with trombonists from orchestras of Berlin, Vienna, Chicago (Charles Vernon and Michael Mulcahy) and Philadelphia, with the Swedish trombone soloist Christian Lindberg, the French soloist Michel Becquet and the Dutch trombonists George Wiegel, Jorgen van Rijen and Bart van Lier.
