Born 1954 in Lahti, Finland. His first trombone teacher was
Martti Inkinen at the Lahti Music Institute. At the age of 19 gained highest
honours for his trombone diploma at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. In 1975 he
joined the Finnish National Opera Orchestra. Since 1995 he has been the solo
trombone of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Alestalo is an active chamber musician and a soloist. He has given the first performances of many contemporary Finnish trombone works. He is a member of several festival orchestras, including The Savonlinna Opera Festival and is a well-known teacher at brass music conferences. |
He has made several recordings for the Finnish Broadcasting Company, including the trombone concertos of Jukka Linkola and Albrechtsberger with the Finnish RSO. Alestalo is a founding member of the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra started by the conductors Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Esa-Pekka Salonen As a versatile jazz loving musician he has become closely associated with the jazz group Super Brass. Other groups that he plays with are The Finnish Brass Symphony, Brasstime Quartett, Brass Quintet Protoventus and The Helsinki Chamber Orchestra. Teppo Alestalo teaches trombone at the Sibelius Academy.
