2001 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference Competitions Information

Rules and Regulations
Eligibility: The International Tuba-Euphonium Competition is open to
contestants of every race, gender and nationality. All contestants must
be a member of TUBA at the time of the live competition. Finalists and
semi-finalists must be registered and present at the 2001 ITEC to be
held August 4-12, 2001 in Lahti, Finland. All entrants must be
amateurs. No one may enter a competition who holds or has held a
professional teaching or performance position such as a full-time
orchestra/band musician or college/university instructor/professor.
First place winners of previous ITEC competitions are not eligible to
compete in the same category at the 2001 ITEC, however, they are
eligible to compete in any of the other areas. These rules of
eligibility apply to all competitions except Artist Tuba. (see below)
Age requirements: Entrants for the Young Artist Division Solo
Competitions must have been born on or after August 4, 1982. Entrants
for the Artist Solo Competitions must have been born in 1966 or after.
A copy of a birth certificate, passport or other definitive
identification must be submitted with entry application. There are no
age requirements for the other competitions.
Application and Fees: All participants must submit to the Competitions
Coordinator an application form and an entrance fee of $25.00 (U.S.) for
the individual competitions. The entrance fee for the Euphonium-Tuba
Quartet Competition is $35.00 (U.S.). Entrants who wish to enter more
than one competition must submit separate applications, fees and
audition tapes for each category.
Audition tapes: All competitions will require taped preliminary
audition (cassettes only).
Specific details are provided under each category. Do not include any
identification marks on the tape cassette or on the cassette box. Tapes
will be numbered and presented anonymously to the preliminary
adjudication committee. Tapes will not be returned to the entrants.
Deadlines: All applications and tapes must be received no later than
March 1, 2001. Entrants from outside the United States should send
tapes and applications by air mail or similar air express services in
order to insure prompt delivery. Entrants chosen to perform as
finalists or semi-finalists will be notified approximately April 15 by
the Competitions Coordinator.
The Artist Tuba Competition will take place July 29 - August 3, 2001 as
a part of the Lieksa Brass Week; it will consist of three live rounds in
addition to the tape round. For more information please see

at that site. The fees for this competition are different from all
others held at ITEC 2001.
The Artist Euphonium Competition will take place just before and during
ITEC 2001 and will have three live rounds in addition to the tape round.
The Young Artist, Arnold Jacobs Mock Orchestra, Rich Matteson Jazz and
Quartet competitions will have two live rounds, during ITEC 2001, in
addition to the taped rounds. All competitors selected for the
semi-finals (1st live round) will receive a reduced conference
registration fee. All live round competitors (except Artist Tuba-see
www.musicfinland.com/lieksa) will be expected to be in Lahti by August
4, for competitors meetings.

All rests are to be metered.
Extended pauses between excerpts should be removed.

The material for live rounds (2) will be sent to competitors by May 15,
2001. The final round will be performed with trombone section.
Euphonium/Tuba Quartet
All quartets must consist of two tuba and two euphoniums. The tubas may
be pitched in any key.

A separate application must be submitted for each competition entered.
Remember that no preliminary tapes should have any identifying marks.
